Regarding need to include algorithmic accountability and platform liability under proposed Digital India Act-Laid SHRI MUKESHKUMAR CHANDRAKAANT DALAL (SURAT): Artificial Intelligence (AI) is next generation technology of the world. India is also rapidly advancing in AI positioning itself as a new player globally. World's largest tech giants are looking towards India to invest billions of dollars into AI & cloud infrastructure in India. India's "India AI Mission" has Rs 10371.92 cr. funding to boost AI ecosystem. India plans to have contribution of $1 trillion in its economy by 2035. AI adoption is surging in defence, telecommunication, electronics, healthcare, agriculture, education & fintech. Since AI is relatively a newer concept in India, it is yet framing AI policies, rules & regulations on data protection, safety, ethics & mitigating deepfakes. Of all these, deepfakes are biggest concern & threats to the country, particularly for youth, women, & political leaders &reputed citizens of the country. These AI-generated fake video/audio can mislead people, damage reputation, & spread distress, disgust & distrust in the country. India's Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) at present tracks deepfake cases. India's IT rules 2021 mandate platforms to remove deepfake cases in India. Yet I suggest that to safeguard people against misuse of AI, the Government needs to draft still stricter laws under Digital India Act & create awareness among people about AI. I suggest that the Digital India Act may include AI-specific clauses addressing algorithmic accountability & platform liability.
