Regarding need to promote Fisheries by utilizing the potential water resources of Govind Sagar and Maharana Pratap Sagar reservoirs in Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency, Himachal Pradesh.-laid SHRI ANURAG SINGH THAKUR (HAMIRPUR): Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency is uniquely flanked by two of India?s largest manmade reservoirs, Gobind Sagar (Bhakra Dam), Maharana Pratap Sagar (Pong Dam). Together they spread across nearly 42,000 hectares of water surface, offering vast, promising resource that perfectly aligns with Government?s vision of Blue Revolution and sustainable fisheries growth. Building on progressive policies already in place, the communities living around these reservoirs can achieve far greater prosperity. Fish production in Himachal Pradesh can be given steady advancement by using productivity potential of these two reservoirs, fully harnessing it to create new opportunities, enhance incomes and strengthen local livelihoods through modern interventions. In keeping with the Government?s commitment to fisher welfare, a dedicated time-bound comprehensive aquaculture development plan is needed, specifically for Gobind Sagar and Maharana Pratap Sagar. This should include modern fish landing centres, ice plants, trout and carp hatcheries, cage culture expansion, direct marketing linkages, along with funding under the Blue Revolution Scheme for infrastructure, fingerling stocking and fisher welfare, along with focused projects by the National Fisheries Development Board covering raceway units, fish seed production, post-harvest facilities and skill development for local communities. These steps would transform the lives of people in districts of Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Kangra.
