Regarding need to release funds pending under Jal Jeevan Mission to Maharashtra and ensure effective implementation of the scheme in the State-Laid DR. NAMDEO KIRSAN (GADCHIROLI-CHIMUR): The ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission has been failed as no clean drinking water is supplied to all through this scheme. The taps and pipelines meant to carry water to the homes of hill-dwelling communities of Maharashtra state have either not been installed or have no water supply, since October 2024. The Jal Jeevan Mission?s (JJM) ongoing projects in the State have been running solely on State funds due to pending funds from the Centre have stopped completely. Total 25,000 projects out of 52,000 commissioned under the programme are still incomplete, leaving villages deprived of piped water and water supply. Women trudge miles and undertake risks to collect water for their family. Bills of contractors are unpaid, work is stopped due to lack of funds, new electricity connections are due, irregularities are common in the tender process, and quality of work has been shoddy. In my Gadchiroli-Chimur Lok Sabha Constituency people are using contaminated water for domestic use and even for personal hygiene in the absence of clean water promised under Jal Jeevan Mission. Most of the work of laying pipelines are incomplete. I, request the Government to release the pending funds under JJM to Maharashtra state so that the stopped work can be restarted.
