Regarding Need to review the decision to exclude Aluva
Railway Station in Ernakulam district, Kerala from Amrit
Bharat Station Scheme-Laid
SHRI BENNY BEHANAN (CHALAKUDY): I wish to draw the
urgent attention of the Government to the exclusion of Aluva
Railway Station from the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Aluva,
situated in Aluva in Ernakulam district, is one of the most important
railway stations in Kerala. It functions as a major transit hub
catering to thousands of passengers daily, including commuters,
students, migrant workers and long-distance travellers. The station
is strategically significant as it is the nearest major railhead to
Cochin International Airport, thereby serving as a vital link between
rail and air connectivity for both domestic and international
passengers. Aluva also plays a crucial role during the pilgrimage
season to Sabarimala Temple, handling substantial passenger
inflow from different parts of the country. Further, its integration
with the metro network operated by Kochi Metro Rail Limited
enhances its importance as a multimodal transport centre. Despite
this strategic and economic significance, the station lacks adequate
modernization, passenger amenities and infrastructure
commensurate with its growing footfall. Several stations have been
selected for redevelopment. The exclusion of Aluva has caused
deep concern among the people of Kerala. I urge the Government
to reconsider and include Aluva Railway Station in the scheme at
the earliest.
