Regarding need to take comprehensive measures to control
drug addiction cases in Karnataka and other parts of country-
laid
DR. K. SUDHAKAR (CHIKKBALLAPUR): The recent data reveals
a staggering 63% surge in drug-related cases, rising from 4,188 in
2024 to 6,824 in 2025 in Karnataka. This sharp increase is
accompanied by a 60% spike in cases registered against drug
users, signaling a shift in enforcement strategy that reflects the
growing ubiquity of substance abuse across the state. A large
number of students and youth unknowingly fall prey to this drug
racket. The problem is further complicated by the use of
anonymous digital platforms. The social ramifications are
devastating, as addiction frequently leads to the fragmentation of
family units, domestic violence, and a rise in related crimes such as
theft and violent outbursts. To address this, a unified response is
essential. There must be seamless coordination between the State
Anti-Narcotics Task Force, the Narcotics Control Bureau, and the
Foreigners Regional Registration Office to disrupt supply chains
and manage the rising involvement of foreign nationals.
Simultaneously, we should expand community-driven rehabilitation
and de-addiction infrastructure, ensuring that enforcement is
balanced with a humanitarian focus on recovery to reclaim the
state?s future from this growing threat. Massive education
programs have to be held at school and college levels. I request
the Government to urgently intervene.
