GOVERNMENT OF ANDHRA PRADESH ABSTRACT Forest Department – Wildlife – Appointment of Honorary Wildlife Wardens under Section 4(I)(bb) of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 – Orders – Issued. ENVIRONMENT, FORESTS, SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY (For.II) DEPARTMENT G.O.Rt.No. 26 Dated: 20-01-2012 ORDER: The Government are empowered to appoint the Honorary Wildlife Wardens in each District for the purpose of involving the community leaders and Wildlife enthusiasts, who have the interest as well as the capacity to render necessary assistance to the Chief Wildlife Warden, Andhra Pradesh for Wildlife Conservation in the State u/s 4(I)(bb) of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 as amended in 2002. Such assistance can be very useful in controlling poaching, clandestine trade in wild animals, their derivatives or their articles; and also for carrying the message on Wildlife and related matters to the people living in and around the Sanctuaries and National Parks. 2. As per Section 4(3) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, the Honorary Wildlife Wardens appointed under the Section shall be subordinate to the Chief Wildlife Warden. The main duty and responsibility of an Honorary Wildlife Warden is to assist whole-heartedly the State Organization, responsible for Wildlife Conservation work such as: 1. Control of poaching and clandestine trade in Wild Animals and Articles/ their derivatives. 2. Detection and prosecution of offences under Wildlife (Protection) Act and Rules. 3. Preventing damage to the habitat of Wildlife; and 4. Measures for dealing with the problem of damage by Wild Animals to life and property including assessment and payment of compensation. 3. In view of the above, Government, under Section 4(I)(bb) of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, hereby appoint the following members as Honorary Wildlife Wardens in respect of the following (12) Districts in Andhra Pradesh: Sl.No. Name of the District Name proposed 1 Srikakulam Smt.T. Chief Conservator of Forests, A.P., Hyderabad is directed to take action and issue instructions to the Chief Wildlife Warden for conducting regular meetings and to involve the Honorary Wildlife Wardens more actively in Wildlife Conservation measures. 7.
