MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATION AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (F2) DEPARTMENT G.O.Rt.No. 305 , Dated the 7th day of March, 2012. Read :- From the Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad, Letter No.GHMC/Commissioner/EE-SWD.I&II/2011, dated 07.01.2012. -- o0o -- O R D E R:- In the reference read above, the Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad has stated that the hydraulic study and designs of the storm water drains in erstwhile MCH area were prepared by M/s.Kirloskar Consultants and presently similar study for the GHMC area is being carried out by M/s.Voyants Solutions Pvt., Ltd., GHMC is now executing widening of four primary nalas (drains) and twenty one secondary nalas under JnNURM. Considering the growth of the city and the characteristics of the rains and in view of the frequent inundations and traffic jams in the city during rains and also after many deliberations with the experts in the urban storm water drainage, GHMC concluded to consider five year return period for finalizing the required width of the drains. During the execution of the sanctioned drains to widths required for five year return period, it is found that some of the existing widths of drains and roads (in case of drains existing under roads) are not enough to accommodate the required widths and leading to land acquisition. Thus, it is necessary to judiciously modify the proposed drain widths considering the cost of land acquisition and the valuation of structures in the heart of urban area on one side and the probable inundation and loss due to floods on the other side and also social issues and it is felt to consider each such drain case as specific and unique depending on the urban area and ground realities and to seek the opinion of experts before deciding the widths duly constituting a committee involving experts in urban storm water drainage field for recommending suitable nala / drain specific stand to GHMC in order to implement the project and requested to constitute an expert committee with the following experts to obtain drain specific recommendations :- (a) Engineer-in-Chief / Chief Engineer, PH&ME Dept.
