Posted On: 11 SEP 2026 10:01PM by PIB Delhi The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved a total of 18.77 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), giving further impetus to the implementation of scheme and accelerating progress towards ‘Housing for All’ in urban areas. The decision was taken in the 9th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), held under the chairmanship of Shri Satendra Singh, Secretary, Department of Urban Development, MoHUA in New Delhi on 10th September 2026.

The meeting was also attended by Shri Kumar Ravikant Singh, Joint Secretary & Mission Director (JS&MD), Housing for All (HFA), Shri Sanjeet, Joint Secretary & Financial Advisor (JS&FA), senior officials from the Ministry and Mission Directors of from participating States. In today’s meeting over 29,000 houses were approved under Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) verticals of PMAY-U 2.0, covering six States - Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh.Addressing the States, Secretary, UD (MoHUA), said that concerted efforts towards the timely and effective implementation, monitoring of PMAY-U 2.0 should be ensured so that the benefits of scheme reach all eligible beneficiaries. He further added that any bottlenecks should be promptly identified and addressed in consultation with the States/UTs.

Secretary, UD categorically mentioned that CSMC meetings will be convened every second week of the month to ensure regular monitoring and provide further impetus to the pace of progress of PMAY-U 2.0.

He emphasised on States/UTs to submit the duly approved projects by end of each month for their timely consideration and sanction in the subsequent CSMC meetings.

Over 18 lakh families being benefitted PMAY-U 2.0 seeks to provide housing assistance to eligible urban EWS/LIG and MIG families through its different verticals. Under the scheme, beneficiaries can construct their own pucca house, purchase a house in projects constructed under the scheme, avail affordable rental housing, or benefit from interest subsidy on eligible housing loans, providing a range of housing solutions suited to their needs, eligibility and financial circumstances.

With total 18.77 lakh approved under PMAY-U 2.0, the scheme is steadily expanding access to safe, affordable and pucca homes. These approvals mark a significant step towards ‘Housing for All’, enabling more urban families to move closer to owning a secure home and building a better future.

Major push towards ‘Housing for All’ PMAY-U 2.0 builds on the sustained progress made under PMAY-U. Overall, under PMAY-U and PMAY- U 2.0, more than 1.25 crore houses have been sanctioned and over 1 crore houses completed and delivered to beneficiaries.

Housing as a foundation for dignity and empowerment The scheme caters to the housing needs of EWS/LIG and MIG families, having an annual household income of up to ₹9 lakh, enabling them to transition from kutcha, inadequate or rented accomodation to safe and dignified homes. By enabling vulnerable families to access adequate housing, the scheme has given them a renewed sense of security and stability, while helping them move towards a better quality of life.

The scheme also places strong emphasis on women’s ownership of houses. Houses sanctioned under the scheme are either in the name of woman of the house or in joint ownership, strengthening women’s economic and social position within the household. Of the 18.77 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY-U

2.0, 17.19 lakh houses (92%) have been allotted to women.Further, to ensure inclusivity and extend the benefits of the scheme to vulnerable sections of society, 1.80 lakh houses have been allotted to senior citizens. 3.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned for SC beneficiaries, 1.02 lakh for ST beneficiaries and 8.22 lakh for OBC beneficiaries, reaffirming the scheme’s commitment to equitable access to safe, affordable and dignified housing.

With the cumulative number of PMAY-U 2.0 sanctions now approaching the 20-lakh milestone, the Government continues to work towards ensuring that every eligible urban family has a house to call their own. Each house sanctioned represents a family moving closer to a safer, more secure and dignified future.
