A seminar was organised today at Bambolim, Goa, under the joint aegis of the Office of the Accountant General, Goa, the Indian Council of Social Science Research
(ICSSR), and Goa University. The seminar aimed to promote dialogue between the Supreme Audit Institution and the academic community on public audit findings.
The event was inaugurated in the presence of Ms. A.T. Shukla (IA&AS), Accountant General, Goa; Prof. Rajendra S. Gad, Vice-Chancellor, Goa University; Prof.
Dhananjay Singh, Member Secretary, ICSSR; and other senior officials and academicians. The discussions focused on two themes: “State Finances of Goa” and “Protection of Goa’s Coastal Ecosystem.” Shri Bhasha Mohammed B., Deputy Accountant General, Goa, gave an overview of the State’s finances and explained the significance of the CAG’s State Finances Audit Reports. He also highlighted audit observations relating to Goa’s ecologically sensitive coastal areas and conservation efforts, along with key measures and initiatives undertaken by the Government.
Prof. S. Chandrasekhar, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, emphasised that CAG reports and publicly available audit data are valuable resources for academic research and policy analysis.
Speaking on Goa’s coastal environment, Shri Sujitkumar Dongre, Scientist ‘E’, Centre for Environment Education, Goa, highlighted the need for sustainable conservation of mangroves, turtle nesting sites and sluice gates, keeping in view the ecological sensitivity of Goa’s coastal areas.
A CAG-ICSSR Research Paper Competition was also announced during the seminar to encourage young and budding researchers to undertake research on issues related to public finance, governance and other areas covered by audit.
Students and young researchers actively participated in the programme and interacted with the speakers on issues concerning Goa’s public finances, audit findings, environmental conservation, and the role of citizens and researchers instrengthening public governance.
The seminar provided a platform for meaningful interaction among the audit institution, academic community and students. It also helped raise awareness about public audit findings and encouraged young scholars to engage with issues related to public finance, governance and environmental sustainability.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Nitin Kumar, Deputy Director, ICSSR. More than 150 students, researchers and scholars participated in the seminar. *** Source- CAG, Goa/PIB Panaji/AY/Parshuram Kor
