However, the Statistical Profile 2018 on the Indian Cooperative Movement, published by the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) in 2018, provides estimated percentage shares of cooperatives in various sectors of the national economy for the years 2016-2018.
Key highlights from the NCUI report include:
* **Agricultural Credit:** 13.40% of total agricultural credit disbursed by cooperatives in 2016-2017; 19.13% of short-term agricultural credit disbursed to small and marginal farmers; 67.30% of Kisan Credit Cards issued by Cooperative Banks & Regional Rural Banks as of March 2017; and 50.20% of total Kisan Credit Cards issued as of March 2017.
* **Fertilizer:** Approximately 35.00% of fertilizer distributed in 2016-2017 was through cooperatives; 24.92% of fertilizer production capacity (5.35 million tonnes in 2016-2017); 28.80% of fertilizer production (5.62 million tonnes in 2016-2017); 20.32% of installed capacity of fertilizer products (1.77 million tonnes in 2016-2017); 25.60% of installed capacity of fertilizer manufacturing units (3.638 million tonnes, N Nutrient, as of March 31, 2017); and 23.53% of installed capacity of fertilizer manufacturing units (1.713 million tonnes, P Nutrient, as of March 31, 2017).
* **Sugar:** 38.63% of installed sugar factories (284 factories as of March 31, 2017) are cooperatives; 30.60% of sugar produced (5.654 million tonnes as of March 31, 2017) was by cooperatives; and 46.14% capacity utilization of sugar mills as of March 31, 2017.
* **Milk:** 84.17% of liquid milk marketed was out of total milk procured by cooperatives; 9.50% milk procurement to total production (2016-17); and 17.50% milk procurement to marketable surplus (2016-17).
* **Storage:** 55.50% of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) have storage facilities at the village level (2016-2017); total storage capacity of cooperative sector in 2016-17 was 22.77 million MT
* **Fisheries:** 20.05% of fishermen are in active cooperatives.
* **Procurement:** 13.30% of wheat procurement (4.4 million tonnes) during 2017-2018 was through cooperatives, and 20.40% of paddy procurement (7.5 million tonnes) during 2016-2017.
* **Retail:** 20.30% of retail fair price shops are cooperatives (rural & urban).
* **Textiles:** 29.34% spindledge in cooperatives (3.56 Million as of March 31, 2018).
* **Employment:** Cooperatives generated 13.30% direct employment and 10.91% self-employment.
The Ministry also highlights the use of the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), a web-based application for tracking funds and reporting expenditure, ensuring complete tracking of funds up to the last mile and Just in Time release of funds via the PFMSEAT module. Registration of all Central Sector Schemes and implementing agencies at all levels of PFMS is mandatory. SNAC/NATS/ASNA/SPARSH are various fund flow and real time monitoring of releases mechanisms of PFMS.

At present, no separate database is maintained for assessing the contribution of cooperative sector in national
and state level Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Therefore, information on contribution of cooperatives sector
in percentage of GDP is not available. However, as per the Statistical Profile-2018 on Indian Cooperative
Movement published by National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) in 2018, the estimated percentage share
of Cooperatives in various Sectors in National Economy is as follows:

PFMS is a web-based financial management application developed and implemented by the Controller
General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. PFMS is
a Centralized Transaction System & Platform, providing end to end financial management services to all
stakeholders. PFMS was started with the objective of tracking funds released under all Plan schemes of
Government of India, and real time reporting of expenditure at all levels of Programme implementation.
SNA/CNA/TSA/SNA-SPARSH are the various fund flow and real time monitoring of releases mechanisms
of PFMS.
As per DoE OM No. 48(06)/PF-II/2016 dt. 12.09.2017 registration of all the Central Sector Schemes and all
of their implementing agencies at all levels of PFMS is mandatory and use of EAT module by all these
implementing agencies. The PFMS/EAT module ensures complete tracking of funds up to last mile and also
ensure Just in Time release of funds.
