Status And Expansion Of Ev Charging Infrastructure

SWATI MALIWAL: Will the Minister of Heavy Industries be pleased to state: (a) the total number of public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations sanctioned, installed and operational during the last five years, State-wise and year-wise; (b) the funds allocated, released and utilised for EV charging infrastructure under various scheme, State-wise; (c) whether Government has assessed the adequacy of charging infrastructure vis-à-vis registered electric vehicles, if so, the EV-to-charger ratio, State-wise; (d) the number of charging stations installed in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and along national highways, along with the criteria for site selection; and (e) the roadmap and targets for expansion of EV charging infrastructure over the next three years, including private sector participation? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) (a): Setting up of electric vehicle charging stations is an unlicensed activity and private entrepreneurs can also participate in the activity. Further, as per information provided by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), the state-wise and year-wise details of Electric Vehicle public charging stations (EV PCS) till 01.03.2026 are provided at Annexure. (b): The details of amount sanctioned, released and utilised under the FAME-II Scheme, as on 18th March, 2026 are as under: (Rs. in crore) Scheme Amount Sanctioned Amount Released Amount Utilised FAME-II 912.50 895.48 655.43 There is no state-wise allocation of grant for EV PCS under FAME-II scheme. Further, an allocation of Rs.2,000 crore has been made under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, for deployment of EV PCS on pan India basis. As on 24/03/2026, no fund has been released for EV PCS under the PM E-DRIVE scheme. (c): No such assessment has been carried out by MHI.-2- (d) & (e): Setting up of electric vehicle charging stations is an unlicensed activity and private entrepreneurs can also participate in the activity. Data regarding EV Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, as well as along national highways, is not centrally maintained by MHI. At present, no specific roadmap or targets have been set for the expansion of EV charging infrastructure over the next three years, including private sector participation.
