The Central Govt. hereby directs that the functions in relation to the execution of works pertaining to each of the National Highways described in column 2 of the Table hereto annexed shall be exercisable by the State Govt. specified in column 3 of the Table.
This notification, S.O. 206(E), issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on January 23, 2014, delegates authority to the State Government of Meghalaya for the execution of works pertaining to specified sections of National Highways within the state. This action is taken in exercise of powers conferred by Section 5 of the National Highways Act, 1956. The State Government is bound to comply with the rules in force under the said Act.
The notification amends the earlier notification S.O. 1096(E), dated August 4, 2005, by substituting the entry for serial number 16 in the Schedule. The amended entry specifies that the State Government of Meghalaya will be responsible for the following National Highway sections: National Highway No. 40 (excluding Km. 0.000 to Km. 61.800 of Jorabat Shillong Barapani section), No. 44 (excluding Km. 69.200 to Km. 173.200 of Jowai to Meghalaya and Assam Border Section), No. 51, No. 62 and also excluding Shillong bypass from Km. 61.800 NH40 to Km. 34.850 NH44 and new NH No. 127B as are situated within the State of Meghalaya.

NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 23rd January, 2014
S.O. 206(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5 of the National Highways Act, 1956 (48 of
1956), the Central Government hereby directs that the functions in relation to the execution of works pertaining to each
of the National Highways described in column (2) of the Table hereto annexed shall be exercisable by the State
Government specified in column (3) of the Table against each highway subject to the condition that the State
Government concerned shall in the exercise of such functions be bound to comply with the rules for the time being in
force under the said Act and for that purpose makes the following further amendments in the notification of the
Government of India in the erstwhile Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways (Department of Road
Transport and Highways) number S.O. 1096(E), dated the 4th August, 2005, namely:—
In the said notification, in the Schedule, for serial number 16 and the entries relating thereto, the following
shall be substituted, namely:—
