The Central Govt. hereby notify that consequent upon the expiry of his term of office as a Member of the Rajya Sabha on 10th February, 2015, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has ceased to be the Leader of Opposition in the Council of the States with effect from 11th February, 2015.
This notification, No. F. 1422014ME, issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs on February 27, 2015, concerns the Leader of the Opposition in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha). It states that, in accordance with Section 2 of the Salary and Allowances of Leaders of Opposition in Parliament Act, 1977, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad was recognized as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, effective February 16, 2015.
Furthermore, in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 9 of the same Act, the notification also states that Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad ceased to be the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, effective February 11, 2015, due to the expiry of his term of office as a Member of the Rajya Sabha on February 10, 2015.
