NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 2nd May, 2016
G.S.R. 472(E).—The following draft rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which the
Central Government proposes to make in exercise of the powers conferred by section 110 of The Motor Vehicles Act,
1988 (59 of 1988) is hereby published as required by sub-section (1) of section 212 of the said Act for information of all
persons likely to be affected thereby and notice is hereby given that the said draft will be taken into consideration after
expiry of a period of 30 days from the date on which copies of this notification as published in the Gazette of India are
made available to the public.
Any objections or suggestions which may be received from any person with respect to the said draft rules within
the expiry of the period so specified will be considered by the Central Government.
The objections or suggestions, if any, to these draft rules be sent to the Joint Secretary (Transport), Ministry of
Road Transport and Highways, Transport Bhawan, Parliament Street, New Delhi, within the period, specified above.
DRAFT RULES
1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (____Amendment) Rules, 2016.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred as the principal rules), in rule 124A, in sub-rule
(2),-
(I) after the first proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided further that the performance requirements of the lighting and light-signaling devices of agricultural
tractors manufactured on and after the 1st day of October, 2016 shall be in accordance with AIS:062
(Rev.1): 2013, as amended from time to time, till such time corresponding BIS standards are notified:”;
(II) in the existing second proviso for the words, “provided further”, the words “provided also” shall be substituted
with effect from the 1st day of October, 2016.
3. In the principal rules, in rule 126, in the first proviso, after the words “as amended from time to time” occurring at
the end the following words, letters, figures and brackets shall be inserted, namely:-
“and information on technical specifications shall be submitted by the vehicle manufacturer in accordance with
AIS-007(Rev.5):2014.”.
