NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 4th July, 2016
G.S.R. 659(E).— The following draft rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989,
which the Central Government proposes to make in exercise of the powers conferred under sections 41 and
110 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), is hereby published, as required by sub-section (1) of
section 212 of the said Act, for the information of all persons likely to be affected thereby and notice is hereby
given that the said draft will be taken into consideration after the expiry of thirty days from the date on which
the copies of the Gazette of India in which the notification is published are made available to the public.
Any objections or suggestions which may be received from any person with respect to the said draft
rules within the period as specified will be considered by the Central Government.
The objections or suggestions, if any, to these draft rules may be addressed to the Joint Secretary
(Transport), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Transport Bhawan, New Delhi 110001, within the
period, specified above.
DRAFT RULES
1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (_____Amendment) Rules, 2016.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereafter referred as the said rules), in rule 125, in sub-rule
(1-C), the following provisio shall be inserted, namely:-¹Hkkx IIµ[k.M 3(i)º Hkkjr dk jkti=k % vlk/kj.k 3
“Provided that this sub-rule is applicable only to those drive away chassis vehicles driven on road,
whenever and wherever, by its own wheels using own power and not applicable to those drive away
chassis vehicles that are transported upon trailers or by any other mode of transportation.”.
