New Delhi, the 15th March, 2022
Results of Elections for the post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India, which was held on
Sunday, the 6th February, 2022 in the premises of Bar Council of India at New Delhi and declared on 20th
February, 2022 vide Item No. 46(A)/2022.
F. No. BCI:D:1144/2022.—The General Council Meeting for 06.02.2022 was fixed for the elections for the
post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India by Election Notification dated 23.01.2022 bearing
No.BCI:D:208/2022.
By virtue of the resolution dated 11.01.2022, Hon’ble Mr. Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, Former Chief
Justice, Patna High Court and Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Anjana Mishra, Former Judge, Patna High Court were appointed
as Observer and Co-Observer for the Elections for the post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India.
Mr. D. P. Dhal, Co-Chairman, Bar Council of India and Executive Chairman, Bar Council of India Trust-
PEARL FIRST presided over the meeting of the General Council held on 6th February, 2022 for the election for the
post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India.
Election for the post of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Bar Council of India
Nomination on 06.02.2022
Mr. Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court filed his nomination for the post of Chairman,
Bar Council of India, in five different sets of nomination with different proposers and seconders and none of the other
Members showed any interest in contesting the election for the post of the Chairman of the Bar Council of India, nor
any other member filed the nomination for the post of Chairman of Bar Council of India.
Mr. S. Prabakaran, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court filed his nomination for the post of Vice-Chairman
and none of the other Members showed any interest in contesting for the post of the Vice-Chairman of the Bar
Council of India, nor any other member filed the nomination for the post of Vice-Chairman of Bar Council of India.
Result dated 20.02.2022
Due to pendency of the Writ Petition (C) No.1497/2022 before the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka
whereby the abovesaid election was challenged, the Results of the Elections for the posts of Chairman and Vice-
Chairman, Bar Council of India were declared only upon withdrawal of the aforesaid Writ Petition on 18.02.2022.
1. Mr. Manan Kumar Mishra, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court Member, Bar Council of India was
unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Bar Council of India with effect for the period 17th April, 2022 to 16th
April, 2025.
2. Mr. S. Prabakaran, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court, Member, Bar Council of India was unanimously
elected as the Vice-Chairman of the Bar Council of India with effect for the period 17th April, 2022 to 16th
April, 2025.
