8.90-km-long corridor on NH-353D to enhance traffic flow, connectivity and road safety

Posted On: 18 SEP 2026 6:00PM by PIB Mumbai Nagpur is set to welcome a major addition to its urban road infrastructure, with the Indora Chowk–Dighori Chowk Flyover on NH-353D scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at 4:30 PM at Reshimbagh Chowk, Nagpur.

The flyover will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, in the presence of Hon’ble Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, along with Hon’ble Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Hon’ble Shri Shivendra Singh Bhosale, Hon’ble Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, other dignitaries and senior officials.

Undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the project is part of the Nagpur–Umred section of NH-353D. The corridor connects Indora Chowk (NH-44), Ashok Chowk, Sheetla Mata Chowk and Dighori Chowk. Spanning 8.90 km, including a 6.37-km-long flyover, the project has been developed at a total cost of ₹997.44 crore.

Key Features of the Project The flyover is a 12-metre-wide, two-lane facility designed to accommodate two-way traffic. It incorporates Ultra-High Performance Fibre-Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) technology and features a maximum span of 90 metres. The structure comprises 34 spans of 60 metres, two 90-metre spans at Bhande Plot and Sheetla Mata Chowk, and the remaining spans of 45 metres.

The project also includes two Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and 13.82 km of service and slip roads. The existing ROB at Pachpaoli has been replaced with a new ROB, while the existing ramps towards Naik Talav and Pachpaoli have been retained. Up and down ramps have been provided at Tajbagh, while a down ramp at Daga Memorial Women’s Hospital will facilitate convenient access.

At Agrasen Chowk, the flyover has been constructed at Level 1, with the existing Metro corridor crossing above it at Level 2, enabling both structures to operate at different elevation levels. An elevated rotary with a pylon structure has also beenprovided at Ashok Chowk, with ramps connecting towards Bhandara Road, Medical Chowk and Nagpur Bus Stand.

The corridor comprises three major and 11 minor junctions. The road beneath the flyover has also been developed to facilitate local traffic movement and improve the overall functionality of the corridor.

Benefits to Commuters The flyover will provide grade-separated movement for through traffic, particularly vehicles travelling towards Bhandara and Umred, while local traffic will continue to use the ground-level road network.

The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce stoppages and travel delays, and enhance road safety by minimising conflicts between through and local traffic. It will also improve connectivity along the corridor and facilitate smoother movement for commuters.

Improved traffic flow is expected to contribute to lower fuel consumption and vehicular emissions, while enhancing access to important destinations, including hospitals, bus stations and commercial areas.

The Indora Chowk–Dighori Chowk Flyover marks a significant addition to Nagpur’s urban road infrastructure. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity and improve mobility for commuters, local residents and through traffic travelling towards Bhandara, Umred and adjoining areas.
