NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 14th September, 2016
G.S.R. 880(E).—Whereas the draft rules further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989,
were published, as required under sub-section (1) of section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of
1988), vide(cid:32)notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways number
G.S.R. 472 (E), dated the 2nd May, 2016 in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part-II, Section 3, Sub-section
(i) inviting objections and suggestions from affected persons before the expiry of the period of thirty days
from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the said notification were made available to public;
Whereas, copies of the said Gazette notification were made available to the public on the 2nd May,
2016;
And whereas, the objections and suggestions received from the public in respect of the said draft rules
have been considered by the Central Government;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (e) of sub-section (1) of section 110 of
the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further
to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, namely: —
1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Motor Vehicles (10th Amendment) Rules, 2016.
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
2. In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (hereinafter referred to as the principal rules), in rule
124A, in sub-rule (2),-¹Hkkx IIµ[k.M 3(i)º Hkkjr dk jkti=k % vlk/kj.k 3
(i)(cid:32) after the first proviso, the following proviso shall be inserted, namely:-
“Provided further that the performance requirements of the lighting and light-signaling
devices of agricultural tractors manufactured on and after the 1st day of April, 2017 shall be in
accordance with AIS:062 (Rev.1): 2014, as amended from time to time, till such time
corresponding BIS standards are notified:”;
(ii)(cid:32) in the existing second proviso for the words, “Provided further”, the words “Provided also”
shall be substituted with effect from the 1st day of October, 2016.
3. In the principal rules, in rule 126, in the first proviso, after the words “as amended from time
to time” occurring at the end the following words, letters, figures and brackets shall be inserted, namely:-
“and information on technical specifications shall be submitted by the vehicle manufacturer in
accordance with AIS-007(Rev.5):2014.”.
