NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 19th March, 2018
No/MoES/37/01/2017-Estt.—WHEREAS, vide Order No.DOD/CZM/6/96 dated 7th October, 1997 Integrated
Coastal and Marine Area Management under the project Environment Capacity Building was established as Project
Directorate under the Department of Ocean Development at Chennai with the approval of Cabinet Committee on
Economic Affairs (CCEA).
AND WHEREAS, sanction of the President was conveyed from time to time to the continuation of Integrated
Coastal and Marine Area Management-Project Directorate at Chennai for implementation of scheme entitled “Coastal
Research”, after amalgamation of the ongoing projects Integrated Coastal Marine Area Management (ICMAM) and
Coastal Ocean Monitoring and Prediction System (COMAPS), as a continuing scheme and Integrated Coastal and
Marine Area Management-Project Directorate functioned as an attached office and R&D unit of Department of Ocean
Development (DOD);
AND WHEREAS, vide Presidential Notification No.CD-87/2006 dated 16th February, 2006 issued by Cabinet
Secretariat amending the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, the Department of Ocean
Development was named as Ministry of Ocean Development;
AND WHEREAS subsequently, vide Presidential Notification No.CD-384/2006 dated 12th July, 2006 issued by
Cabinet Secretariat amending the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, the Ministry of Ocean
Development was named as Ministry of Earth Sciences;
AND WHEREAS, a High Level Committee was constituted to review the status of the Integrated Coastal and
Marine Area Management-Project Directorate (ICMAM-PD) and redefine its role in the light of new scientific activities;
AND WHEREAS, one of the recommendations of the Committee to rename Integrated Coastal and Marine Area
Management-Project Directorate (ICMAM-PD) an attached office and R&D unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES)
to National Centre for Coastal Research, an attached office at Chennai has been accepted by the Hon’ble Minister for
S&T and Earth Sciences;
NOW, THEREFORE, the competent authority notify the renaming of Integrated Coastal and Marine Area
Management-Project Directorate, attached office of Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) as National Centre of Coastal
Research (NCCR), Chennai as an attached office of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) with immediate effect.
