National Youth Day was marked in a unique manner at the Indian Institute of
Management (IIM) Nagpur with the arrival of the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra of Chinmaya
Yuva Kendra (CHYK), Chinmaya Mission, coinciding with the birth anniversary of
Swami Vivekananda.
Addressing students at the institute, Swami Mitrananda, National Advisor, All India
Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, described Swami Vivekananda as “a great manager whose
organisational vision and leadership skills remain relevant even today.” He said
management students must study how Swami Vivekananda successfully built the
Ramakrishna Mission into a global, volunteer-driven organisation despite challenges
such as British rule and world wars. “The Mission continues to remain vibrant and
impactful even after 150 years,” he noted. Swami Anukoolananda, National
Convenur, AICHYKI, also accompanied him.
The Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, which began from Pune on December 31, aims to inspire
one million youth across the country over the next 300 days through the teachings
of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. Led by dedicated Yuvaveer yatris, the Yatra reached
Nagpur on Sunday, with IIM Nagpur being its major stop in the city.Referring to the relevance of the Bhagavad Gita for today’s youth, Swami
Mitrananda said the scripture is “a dialogue between two dynamic personalities,
Arjuna and Krishna, and is meant for young and working people.” He emphasised
that youth is the right stage of life to understand the Gita. “The Gita teaches control
of the mind. A steady mind finds solutions, while a distracted mind turns situations
into problems,” he said.
Praising the institute, Swami Mitrananda said the IIM Nagpur campus reflects the
Indian Knowledge System in its ethos and design. “Tradition and technology must
move together, and that is what we need today,” he remarked, urging students to
read the Gita as a philosophy of life and become its torchbearers.
Hundreds of students, faculty members, and staff attended the session, which was
followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment. Earlier, Director of IIM
Nagpur, Dr Bhimaraya Metri, welcomed Swami Mitrananda and the Chinmaya Yuva
Kendra team to the campus.
