S T A T U T O R Y I N S T R U M E N T S 2025 No. 170 CIVIL AVIATION The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Sherburn-in-Elmet Air Race) Regulations 2025 Made - - - - 14th February 2025 Coming into force - - 24th May 2025 The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the area specified in regulation 3(1) by reason of the intended holding there of a Royal Aero Club Air Race.
The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Sherburn-in- Elmet Air Race) Regulations 2025 and they come into force on 24th May 2025.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.โ(1) Subject to paragraph (2), beginning at 1045 hours and ending at 1545 hours on 24th May 2025 and beginning at 0945 hours and ending at 1445 hours on 25th May 2025 no aircraft is to fly below 1,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by straight lines joining successively the following pointsโ
(a) 534649N 0011632W,
(b) 534757N 0011206W,
(c) 534746N 0010942W,
(d) 534820N 0010715W,
(e) 534553N 0010811W,
(f) 534358N 0011153W,
(g) 534547N 0011653W, and
(h) 534649N 0011632W.
(a) S.I. 2016/765, as amended by S.I. 2024/990; there are other amending instruments, but none is relevant.
(b) Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to an aircraftโ
(a) flying with the permission ofโ
(i) the Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome air-ground service, or
(ii) the Royal Aero Club Records, Racing and Rally Association Race Officials, or
(b) operated by or on behalf ofโ
(i) a Police Air Support Unit,
(ii) an Emergency Medical Service, or
(iii) the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport David J Best Grade 7 14th February 2025 Department for Transport EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in the vicinity of Sherburn-in-Elmet, Yorkshire, by reason of the intended holding there of a Royal Aero Club Air Race on 24th May 2025 and 25th May 2025.
A large number of aircraft will be involved in high energy manoeuvres during the Air Race and therefore the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of the event for reasons of public safety.
The times mentioned in regulation 3(1) are Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).
In relation to the permissions mentioned in regulation 3(2)(a), the Sherburn-in-Elmet Aerodrome air-ground service and the Royal Aero Club Records, Racing and Rally Association Race Officials may be contacted as notified.

(AIC) and Notice to Aviation (NOTAM).
