S T A T U T O R Y I N S T R U M E N T S 2025 No. 186 CIVIL AVIATION The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal Air Force Cosford) Regulations 2025 Made - - - - 19th February 2025 Coming into force - - 6th June 2025 The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the area specified in regulation 3(1) by reason of the intended holding there of flying displays.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Royal Air Force Cosford) Regulations 2025 and they come into force on 6th June 2025.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(2) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (3), during the periods specified in paragraph (2) no aircraft is to fly below 5,300 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a circle having a radius of 6 nautical miles centred at 523824N 0021819W.
(2) The periods referred to in paragraph (1) begin at—
(a) 1300 hours and end at 1700 hours on each of 6th June 2025 and 7th June 2025, and
(b) 1000 hours and end at 1700 hours on 8th June 2025.
(3) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying in accordance with a permission issued by the—
(a) Royal Air Force Cosford flying display director,
(b) air traffic control unit at Royal Air Force Shawbury whilst receiving an air traffic service from that unit, or
(c) air traffic control unit at Royal Air Force Cosford whilst receiving an air traffic service from that unit.

(b) Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport David J Best Grade 7 19th February 2025 Department for Transport EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in the vicinity of Royal Air Force Cosford, Shropshire during flying displays for the general public that are due to take place there between 6th June 2025 and 8th June 2025 (inclusive).
A large number of aircraft will be involved in high energy manoeuvres during the displays and therefore the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted in the vicinity of the displays for reasons of public safety.
The times mentioned in regulation 3(2) are Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).
Full details of this Statutory Instrument will be promulgated by Aeronautical Information Circular
(AIC) and Notice to Aviation (NOTAM).
In relation to the permission mentioned in regulation 3(3)(a), the Royal Air Force Cosford flying display director may be contacted as notified.
