The Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2026
Made - - - - 12th May 2026
Laid before Parliament 14th May 2026
Coming into force - - 4th June 2026
The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 43 of the
Firearms Act 1968(1) and sections 11(4) and 17(9) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988(2).
Citation, commencement and extent
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2026 and comes into
force on 4th June 2026.
(2) This Order extends to England and Wales and Scotland.
Variation of fees for firearm and shot gun certificates
2. In section 32(1) of the Firearms Act 1968(3) (fees for certificate and exemption from paying
it in certain cases)—
(a) in paragraph (a), for “£198” substitute “£204”;
(b) in paragraph (b), for “£131” substitute “£135”;
(c) in paragraph (c), for “£47” substitute “£48”;
(d) in paragraph (d), for “£194” substitute “£200”;
(e) in paragraph (e), for “£126” substitute “£130”.
Variation of fees for registration as a firearms dealer
3. In section 35 of the Firearms Act 1968(4) (fee for registration and renewal thereof)—
(1) 1968 c. 27; section 43 is extended by sections 11(4) and 17(9) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 (c. 45).

(3) Section 32(1) was substituted by S.I. 1990/290 (England and Wales) and 1990/325 (Scotland). S.I. 2025/36 varies certain
fees payable under the Firearms Act 1968. Certain fees payable under the Firearms Act 1968 have previously been varied
but are not relevant to this Order.
(4) Sections 35(1) and (3) were substituted by (England, Wales) S.I. 1990/290 and (Scotland) S.I. 1990/325. Section 35(1A) was

Variation of fees for co-terminous certificates
4. In section 11(3) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988(5) (grant of co-terminous certificates)

Variation of fees for visitors’ permits
5. In section 17(8) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988(6) (visitors’ permits)—

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order, which extends to England and Wales and Scotland, varies certain fees payable under the
Firearms Act 1968 and the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988. The new fee levels are set out below.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant impact on
the private sector, voluntary sector or community bodies is foreseen. An economic note is annexed to
the Explanatory Memorandum and is available alongside this instrument on www.legislation.gov.uk.
