S T A T U T O R Y I N S T R U M E N T S 2026 No. 525 CIVIL AVIATION The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Edinburgh) (No. 2) Regulations 2026 Made - - - - 15th May 2026 Coming into force - - 17th May 2026 The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict the flying of unmanned aircraft in the area specified in regulation 3(1) by reason of the intended gathering of a large number of persons. The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a). Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Edinburgh) (No. 2) Regulations 2026 and they come into force on 17th May 2026. Interpretation 2. The times referred to in regulation 3(1) are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b). Restricted airspace 3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), during the period beginning with 1300 hours and ending with 1800 hours on 17th May 2026 no unmanned aircraft is to fly below 1,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by straight lines joining successively the following points— (a) 555630N, 0031407W, (b) 555638N, 0031332W, (c) 555646N, 0031326W, (d) 555655N, 0031325W, (e) 555657N, 0031318W, (f) 555700N, 0031315W, (g) 555710N, 0031251W, (h) 555711N, 0031234W, (i) 555725N, 0031109W, (a) S.I. 2016/765, amended by S.I. 2024/990; there are other amending instruments but none is relevant. (b) Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).(j) 555717N, 0031112W, (k) 555713N, 0031055W, (l) 555705N, 0031048W, (m) 555700N, 0031043W, (n) 555658N, 0031050W, (o) 555657N, 0031059W, (p) 555655N, 0031112W, (q) 555654N, 0031130W, (r) 555647N, 0031156W, (s) 555645N, 0031207W, (t) 555641N, 0031218W, (u) 555637N, 0031227W, (v) 555632N, 0031247W, (w) 555624N, 0031309W, (x) 555623N, 0031312W, (y) 555621N, 0031322W, (z) 555612N, 0031339W, (aa) 555559N, 0031410W, (bb) 555606N, 0031414W, (cc) 555613N, 0031414W, (dd) 555624N, 0031413W, (ee) 555628N, 0031410W, and (ff) 555630N, 0031407W. (2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any unmanned aircraft flying in accordance with the permission of the Police Scotland Aviation Safety and Security Unit. Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport Karen L Michaels Grade 7 15th May 2026 Department for Transport EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations impose restrictions on the flying of unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of Edinburgh for the Heart Of Midlothian Football Club celebration parade that is due to take place there on 17th May 2026. At the request of Police Scotland, the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that the flying of unmanned aircraft should be restricted for reasons of public safety and security due to the intended gathering of a large number of persons. The times mentioned in regulation 3(1) are Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST). In relation to the permission mentioned in regulation 3(2), the Police Scotland Aviation Safety and Security Unit may be contacted as notified.
