The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022
(Commencement No. 9) Regulations 2026

The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section
208(1) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022(a).
Citation
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022
(Commencement No. 9) Regulations 2026.
Provision coming into force on 29th June 2026
2. Section 81 (repeal of the Vagrancy Act 1824 etc) of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts
Act 2022 comes into force on 29th June 2026.

(a) 2022 c. 32.EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations bring into force specified provisions of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and
Courts Act 2022 (c. 32) (“the Act”). They are the ninth commencement regulations made under
the Act.
Regulation 2 brings section 81 of the Act into force on 29th June 2026. Section 81 repeals the
Vagrancy Act 1824 (c. 83) which created a range of offences relating to begging and rough
sleeping. Section 81 also makes a number of amendments to other legislation consequential on
that repeal.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant,
impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
