The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Wimbledon)
Regulations 2026
Made - - - - 28th January 2026
Coming into force - - 27th June 2026
The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the
vicinity of Wimbledon, London Borough of Merton, by reason of the gathering of a large number
of persons at the 2026 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by
article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Wimbledon)
Regulations 2026 and they come into force on 27th June 2026.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), beginning with 0500 hours and ending with 2200 hours on
each of the seventeen days beginning with 27th June 2026 and ending with 13th July 2025, no
aircraft is to fly below 1,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by a circle having
a radius of 0.75 of a nautical mile which is centred at 512601N 0001250W.
(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft—
(a) operated by or on behalf of—
(i) a Police Air Support Unit, or
(ii) an Emergency Medical Service,
(b) making an approach to or departing from London Heathrow Airport whilst under the
direction of the London Terminal Control Centre, Swanwick or air traffic control unit at
London Heathrow Airport, or
(c) flying in accordance with the permission of the Championship Safety Officer.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in the vicinity of the All England Lawn Tennis
Club, Wimbledon, on the occasion of the 2026 Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships which
are due to take place there on 27th June to 13th July 2026, inclusive.
As large crowds are expected to attend this event each day, the Championships Safety Officer has
requested that restrictions be imposed on flying in the vicinity of the Championships on public
safety and security grounds. This has been agreed by the Civil Aviation Authority and the
Department for Transport.
The times mentioned in regulation 3(1) are Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) which is one hour
behind British Summer Time (BST).
In relation to the permission mentioned in regulation 3(2)(c), the Championship Safety Officer
may be contacted as notified.
Full details of this Statutory Instrument will be promulgated by Aeronautical Information Circular
(AIC) and Notice to Aviation (NOTAM).
