Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/1861 1.7.2024 EUROPEAN COUNCIL DECISION (EU) 2024/1861 of 28 June 2024 electing the President of the European Council THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 15(5) thereof, Whereas: (1) On 30 November 2024, the term of office of the current President of the European Council, Mr Charles MICHEL, will come to an end. (2) A new President of the European Council should therefore be elected, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION: Article 1 Mr António COSTA is hereby elected President of the European Council for the period from 1 December 2024 until 31 May 2027. Article 2 This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Done at Brussels, 28 June 2024. For the European Council The President C.
