NOTIFICATION
Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat saMitis act, 1961.
No. ZPE-2025/C.R.151/PR-2.—Whereas, the Government of Maharashtra is satisfied that the
circumstances exist which rendered it necessary to take immediate action further to amend the
Maharashtra Zilla Parishads (Electoral Divisions and Conduct of Election) Rules, 1962 and for that
purpose to dispense with the condition of previous publication of these rules under the proviso to
sub-section (3) of section 274 of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis Act, 1961
(Mah. V of 1962).
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (i) and (iii) of sub-section (2) of
section 274 read with sub-section (2) of section 9 and section 14 of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads
and Panchayat Samitis Act, 1961 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Government
of Maharashtra hereby, in consultation with the State Election Commissioner, makes the following
rules further to amend Maharashtra Zilla Parishads (Electoral Divisions and Conduct of Election)
Rules, 1962 as follows, namely:-
1. These rules may be called the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads (Electoral Divisions and Counduct
of Election) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
2. In rule 22 of the Maharashtra Zilla Parishads (Electoral Divisions and Conduct of Election)
Rules, 1962 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Rules”) for sub-rule (2), the following sub-rule
shall be substituted, namely:-
“(2) (i) After allocation of symbols, the Returning Officer shall publish a list of the contesting
candidates by arranging the names of candidates in the following order,
(a) First Group.- Candidates of the National Parties and the State-level Parties in
Maharashtra recognised by the Election Commission of India and registered with the State
Election Commission.
(b) Second Group.- Candidates of State-level Parties of other States recognised by the
Election Commission of India and registered with the State Election Commission.
(c) Third Group.- Candidates of unrecognized political parties registered with the State
Election Commission.
(d) Fourth Group.- Independent Candidates.
(ii) The names of candidates in each of the above groups shall be arranged in Marathi
alphabetical order in beginning with the surnames (in respect of candidates having surnames)
followed by their names and addresses as stated in the nomination papers.”.
