FLOATING SOLAR POWER PROJECT ON JAYAKWADI DAM
4048. SHRI SUDHEER GUPTA
Will the Minister of NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY be pleased to state:
(a) the current status and the progress achieved regarding renewable energy targets under
the Conference of Parties (COP26);
(b) whether massive floating solar power project with an estimated capacity of 1,342 MW
to 1,350 MW planned on the Jayakwadi Dam (Paithan, Maharashtra) by National
Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC);
(c) if so, the details thereof and the socio-economic benefits likely to be drawn by the
drought-prone and backward Marathwada region of Maharashtra;
(d) the reasons for delay in completion of above said project; and
(e) whether the necessary environmental clearance for the said project has been taken and
if so, the details thereof and if not, the time by which it is likely to be done?

(a) In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s announcement at Conference of Parties
(COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), India
submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC in August
2022, that included, achieving about 50 percent cumulative electric power installed capacity
from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030. India attained this target in June 2025,
around five years ahead of the committed timeline.
As on 30.06.2026, a total of 288.59 GW of Renewable Energy capacity has been installed in
the country, contributing to a total non-fossil power capacity of 297.36 GW, which accounts
for 54.18% of the total electric power capacity installed in the country.
(b) to (e) As per the information furnished by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)
Limited, the preliminary activities for evaluating the setting up of floating solar power project
on Jayakwadi Dam by the NTPC Green Energy Limited are underway and a final decision has
not been taken with regard to this floating solar project.
