Crop calendar and Harvesting period A remunerative and stable price environment for Green gram growers/ of Green gram in the State of Tamil Nadu farmers is very important for increasing agricultural production and productivity. The market price for agricultural produce many times tends to be unstable and volatile which may result in undue losses to the growers and discourage adoption of the modern technology and required inputs. The Government’s price policy for agricultural commodities seeks to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce with a view to encourage higher investment and production and to safeguard the interest of consumers by making available supplies at reasonable prices with low cost of intermediation. The price policy also seeks to evolve a balanced and integrated price structure in the perspective of the overall needs of the economy. Towards this end, the Government announce Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for major agricultural commodities each year in both the Crop seasons after taking into account the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). Ex-II-1(27) [ 1 ]2 TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY In the scheme for the procurement of Green gram in the year of 2024- 2025 Rabi season as per the revised guidelines for Price Support Scheme (PSS) (Pulses, Oil Seeds & Copra) October 2024 issued by the Government of India, (Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare), the notification regarding Crop calendar and harvesting period of Green gram in the State of Tamil Nadu is to be required as part of proposal. Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu is willing to implement the Price Support Scheme (PSS) and its operation in Tamil Nadu and accordingly declare the following details:- NOTIFICATION FOR GREEN GRAM IN TAMIL NADU– RABI 2024-2025 1. Crop : Green gram 2. Commodity to be notified : Green gram 3. Crop calendar year : Throughout the year 4. Sowing Period : October - February 5. Harvesting period : January - May 6. Commencement of arrival : January 7. Peak arrival period : February to May 8. Expected Quantity of Procurement 10,500 MT 15.01.2025 to 14.04.2025– Thiruvallur, Salem, Namakkal, : Villupuram, Tiruppur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Proposed duration of the scheme and districts 9. Tenkasi and Dindigul districts. covered 01.04.2025 to 29.06.2025– Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore (Delta districts). 10. Details of Green gram Production for Rabi Season in Tamil Nadu a) Sowing Area : 1.273 L ha (as per 2023-24 Final Estimate) b) Expected production : 0.561 LMT(as per 2023-24 Final Estimate) c) Average yield : 384 Kg/Ha(as per 2023-24 Final Estimate) d) Ruling market price : Rs.65 to Rs.70 per Kg of Green gram e) Minimum Support price : For 2024-2025 Rs.8,682 per quintal f) Major Rabi Green gram growing districts : Thiruvallur, Salem, Namakkal, Villupuram, Tiruppur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore.
