NOTIFICATIONS BY GOVERNMENT SCHOOL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT APPROVAL TO DECLARE THE THANJAVUR MAHARAJA SERFOJI’S SARASVATI MAHAL LIBRARY & RESEARCH CENTRE AS A “LIBRARY OF HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL IMPORTANCE” AND TO CLASSIFY IT AS AN AIDED LIBRARY OF THE TAMIL NADU PUBLIC LIBRARIES RULES, 1950.

Under Rule 22-A of the Tamil Nadu Public Libraries Rules, 1950, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby notifies the following terms and conditions in respect of the Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji’s Sarasvati Mahal Library & Research Centre, as a Library of Historical and Cultural Importance and classifies the same as an aided library and directs that continuance of the grant in aid to the said Library shall be subject to the fulfilment of the said terms and conditions, namely:-

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

1. The grant to be released should be used for the following purposes:

(i) Research and Publications,

(ii) Conservation of Manuscripts,

(iii) Library / Museum upkeep and maintenance,

(iv) Preservation of Manuscripts,

(v) Digitization of Manuscripts,

(vi) Administration.

2. Grant should be utilized for activities of the library as envisaged in its by-laws and for staff employed and their welfare including salaries.

3. The accounts, yearly once should be audited by the competent authority and submitted to the Government.

4. If any new schemes or improvement to be undertaken, prior approval of the Director of Public Libraries is to be obtained.

5. Director of Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji’s Sarasvati Mahal Library & Research Centre should submit a quarterly report on the activities of the library and the utilization of the grants disbursed.
