Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt. of India, Mumbai, issued an Engineering Circular No. 138 of 2017, dated 02.05.2017, File No:- ENG/EXAM-CIRC-25(01)/2017, Subject: Assessment of MEO Class – I and MEO Class – II Preparatory Courses in accordance with IS/ISO Clause No. 7.5. The preparatory courses for MEO Class I and MEO Class II examinations are mandatory for candidates desiring to appear for these examinations and a course completion certificate is issued at the end. Maritime institutes must carry out assessment by means of written and oral examination of candidates. Due to unsatisfactory passing percentages, the Competent Authority emphasizes the need for written and oral assessment prior to issuing preparatory course completion certificates. Maritime institutes are to keep records of examinations for two years for verification during inspections. The circular was approved by the Competent Authority, and issued by A.M. Wankhede, Engineer & Ship Surveyor.
