Circular No. 2 of 2022 from the Office of the Seamen's Provident Fund Commissioner (under Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways), dated August 23, 2022, addresses all shipping companies regarding the levy of penalty on late submission of Provident Fund statements in SPFO.
In the 142nd Board of Trustee meeting held on July 18, 2022, a decision was made to grant a 30-day grace period for PF contributions to shipping companies depositing PF amounts directly into the SPFO bank account but not uploading/submitting PF return statements in SPFO. After this grace period, a penalty will be levied on non-compliant companies for late submission of PF return statements: Rs. 10,000 per month for the first three months, and Rs. 20,000 per month thereafter until submission of PF statements.
Shipping companies are requested to ensure that Provident Fund statements are uploaded/submitted to the Seamen's Provident Fund Organisation according to the decision of the Board of Trustees. Acknowledgement of the circular is requested.

ln the 142nd Board of trustee meeting held on 18.07.2022 the Board deliberated and
decided to give 30 days' grace period as applicable to PF contribution to the shipping
companies those who are depositing PF amount directly in the SPFO bank account but not
uploading / submitting PF return statement in SPFO. Thereafter penalty should be levied on
the non-compliance companies for late subnrission of PF return statements @Rs.10,0001
per month for first three months and Rs.20,0001 per month after 3 months till submission of
PF statements.

uploaded / submitted to the Seamen's Prcvident Fund organisation in accordance with the
