Circular No.I/2022 of SPFO- Change in Grace Period for Levy of damages on delay payment of Provident Fund Contributions and Administrative charges thereon.
Circular No.1 of 2022 from the Seamen's Provident Fund Commissioner, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, announces a change in the grace period for levying damages on delayed payments of Provident Fund contributions and administrative charges.
Effective from the end of the succeeding calendar month in which a seafarer has signed off, damages/penalties/charges will be applied to late PF contributions, based on the decision of the 142nd Board of Trustees meeting held on July 18, 2022. The previous grace period was 30 days from the date of sign off. The rates of damages/penalty/charges will remain unchanged. All shipping companies are requested to ensure timely remittances to the Seamen's Provident Fund organization.

It has been decided in the 142nd Board of trustee meeting held on 18.07.2022 lhal
damages / penalty / charges on late receipl of PF contributions should be levied with effect
from the end of succeeding calendar month in which seafarer has signed off. Earlier it was
30 days from the date of sign off. The rate of damages / penalty / charges remains
unchanged.

You are, therefore, requested to ensure that the remittances are made to the
Seamen's Provident Fund organisation in accordance with the decision of the Board of
Trustees, Seamen's Provident Fund as above otherwise damages / penalty / charges will be
levied as per above decision.
