On January 5, 2026, the PCDA Southern Command, Pune, in collaboration with NADFM Pune, launched 'DefThink – Defence Finance Policy Lab' to foster innovation in defence finance. The initiative comprises a set of innovative measures aimed at strengthening the defence financial management system, including a Digital Audit Repository, Defence Finance Hackathon, Data Simulation Lab, and other technology-driven interventions. Proposed by IDAS probationers and presented at the Controllers' Conference in New Delhi in July 2025, it has been launched as a pilot program at PCDA Southern Command. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri V. K. The DefThink initiative was launched today at the office of the Principal Controller of Defence
Accounts (PCDA), Southern Command, Pune, in collaboration with the National Academy of
Defence Financial Management (NADFM), Pune.
The initiative, titled “DefThink – Defence Finance Policy Lab,” comprises a set of innovative
measures aimed at strengthening defence financial management system. These include a Digital
Audit Repository, Defence Finance Hackathon, Data Simulation Lab, and other technology-driven
and analytical interventions.
The DefThink concept was proposed by Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) probationers
during their training and was presented at the Controllers’ Conference held in New Delhi in July
2025. Based on its potential and relevance, the initiative has been launched as a pilot
programme at PCDA Southern Command.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shri V. K. Vijay, PCDA (Officers), Pune; Shri Moloy
Chakrabortty, PCDA (Southern Command), Pune; Shri Harsh Vaidya, PCDA (Navy), Mumbai; and
