Posted On: 29 SEP 2026 5:12PM by PIB Mumbai Nagpur, 29 September 2026 Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) welcomed Dr. Anjani Kumar as Director (Technical – Projects & Planning) on September 28, 2026. WCL CMD Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Director (Finance) Shri Bikram Ghosh and Director (Technical) Shri Sandeep Paranjape welcomed Dr. Kumar and extended their best wishes on his new responsibility. Prior to joining WCL, he was serving as Executive Director (Contracts) at Coal India Limited (CIL) Headquarters, Kolkata, since October

2025.

Dr. Kumar brings over 33 years of experience in Coal India Limited, with expertise in mining operations, project planning, vigilance, contract management and corporate management. He holds a B.Tech. in Mining Engineering and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, besides a First Class Mines Manager’s Certificate of Competency from DGMS. He also holds an MBA in Human Resources and an Executive Diploma in Project Management.

Dr. Kumar began his professional career with Coal India Limited in April 1993 and served in various key positions at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), including as Technical Secretary to the CMD. He subsequently headed the Projects & Planning Department at Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).With his extensive technical, operational and managerial experience in the mining sector, Dr.
