File/2025/282.—The following is published for general information:— ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 7th August, 2025 No. 480/Programme/2025.—Whereas, a vacancy in the office of the Vice-President of India has occurred by reason of resignation of Sh. Jagdeep Dhankhar on 21st July, 2025; and Whereas, under clause (2) of Article 68 of the Constitution of India, an election to fill the said vacancy is required to be held as soon as possible after the occurrence of the vacancy; and Whereas, under sub-section 4 of Section 4 of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952 (31 of 1952), the Election Commission of India is required to appoint the dates for the election to fill the office of the Vice President of India; Now, therefore, the Election Commission of India hereby – (A) calls upon the Electoral College, referred to in Article 66 of the Constitution, to elect a person to fill the said vacancy in the office of the Vice-President of India, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952 (31 of 1952), and the Rules and Orders made thereunder; and (B) in pursuance of sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the said Act, appoints- a) the 21st August, 2025 (Thursday), as the last date for making nominations; b) the 22nd August, 2025 (Friday), as the date for scrutiny of the nominations; c) the 25th August, 2025 (Monday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures; and d) the 09th September, 2025 (Tuesday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken.
