Establishment of Task Force for Women in Maritime for nurturing and supporting the Directorate's initiative of Sagar Mein Samman

DGS Order 18 of 2024, dated 25.11.2024, addresses the establishment of a "Task Force for Women in Maritime" to support the Directorate's "Sagar Mein Samman" initiative. The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) is constituting this task force, comprising members from the maritime industry, including representatives from shipping companies, allied offices, and other relevant stakeholders. The task force will analyze and devise maritime strategies to combat issues facing women seafarers, and support their well-being at sea and ashore. The Task Force's Terms of Reference (ToR) include: * Preparing a complete "Sagar Mein Samman" policy document, which may include zero tolerance policy document, diversity/ equity and inclusion framework, model code of conduct, and gender perspective strategies. * Infrastructure requirement with gender perspective. * Social media engagement and institutional mechanisms to promote maritime careers for women. * Proposals for scholarships and sponsorships. * Strategies to mobilise MTIs, proposals for situational engagement of women, and standards for medical care and infrastructure. * Best practices, existing rule frameworks, and regulatory frameworks for women's empowerment. * Corporate gender engagement framework, institutional accounts for a congenial work environment. * Strategies for alternate careers, standardized modules for MTIs (Post and Pre-Sea) for gender sensitization, and buddy programs. * Strategies to motivate, remove stigma, and curb male prejudice. * Creation of course maps, proposals related to work ethics and infrastructure availability. * Identifying barriers to entry, retention, and advancement for women. * Raising awareness about the contributions of women in maritime. * Preparing a status report of women in maritime (India & Global wise). * Strategies to promote women in cruise and other maritime associated industry. * Year wise action plan, budget, funding and collated from industry partnership and sovereign funding for promoting the cause of women in maritime. The Task Force may co-opt experts and develop its own rules. Participation is voluntary and without remuneration. The Task Force may explore potential funding sources. The order is addressed to all Task Force members, Seafarer Unions (MUI/NUSI etc.), Industry Associations (MASSA/FOSMA/INSA/ICCSA/IMF etc.), and Professional Organisations (CMMI/IMEI/WMU India Alumni Association).
