For researchers from lower-middle-income families, fellowship assistance can provide the financial stability required to remain focused on doctoral studies and meaningful research.

Demonstrating the positive impact of the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste (NFSC) Students Scheme, Babli, a 32-year-old scholar from South East Delhi, has continued working towards her aspiration of building an academic career and producing valuable research outcomes. The fellowship has strengthened her confidence and supported her pursuit of higher education.

Before receiving assistance under the NFSC Scheme, Babli faced financial constraints that affected her ability to pursue her academic goals. Coming from a lower-middle-income family, she had to navigate economic limitations while working towards a career in academics and research.

These financial difficulties also contributed to wider educational and social barriers. The need for sustained financial resources made it challenging for her to pursue doctoral research with stability and concentrate fully on producing meaningful academic outcomes.

Despite these challenges, Babli remained committed to her academic aspirations. She aimed to establish a career in academics and contribute through research, reflecting her determination to progress through higher education.In January 2021, Babli began receiving assistance under the NFSC Scheme. She availed fellowship, House Rent Allowance and contingency support amounting to approximately Rs. 25 lakh. The assistance addressed her financial challenges and provided the stability needed to pursue her Ph.D. and academic goals.

The fellowship brought significant financial relief and helped ease the broader social challenges associated with economic hardship. The support strengthened her confidence and enabled her to continue her academic journey with greater security and focus.

With support under the NFSC Scheme, Babli has been able to move forward towards her academic and research aspirations. The financial stability provided through the Scheme has helped her remain focused on her long-term objectives while strengthening her professional confidence.

At present, Babli is employed full-time. Her journey highlights how timely support under the NFSC Scheme can help Scheduled Caste scholars overcome financial barriers, pursue advanced education and work towards meaningful academic and professional goals with confidence.
