Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment From Financial Hardship to Academic Aspirations Hanumakonda Telangana’s Arjun Kumar’s Success Story under the NFSC Scheme
Posted On: 21 OCT 2026 4:18PM by PIB Delhi Financial assistance plays a vital role in helping aspiring scholars overcome economic barriers and pursue higher education.
The journey of Mr. Arjun Kumar (name changed), a doctoral scholar from Hanumakonda district of Telangana, highlights how support under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme can help students continue their research and work towards their academic aspirations.
Coming from a financially vulnerable family, Mr. Arjun Kumar faced significant economic and social barriers while pursuing his higher education. Limited financial resources made it difficult for him to sustain his studies and continue his research. Despite these challenges, he remained determined to complete his Ph.D. and fulfil his long-term aspiration of becoming a professor.
A significant change began in 2022, when he started receiving assistance under the NFSC Scheme. The fellowship and contingency support helped him manage expenses associated with his doctoral studies and continue his research. This assistance eased the financial pressure that had threatened to interrupt his academic journey and enabled him to remain focused on his studies. The support has also contributed to an improvement in his financial circumstances.
Alongside pursuing his Ph.D., Mr. Arjun Kumar has been able to support his family, helping address an important concern that he faced before receiving the fellowship. The assistance has strengthened his ability to continue working towards his academic goals while contributing to his household’s needs.
The fellowship has brought positive changes to his academic and personal life by helping him continue his research despite financial constraints. It has provided greater financial stability and reinforced his confidence to pursue advanced studies. His experience illustrates how targeted educational support can help scholars navigate financial barriers and remain committed to their long-term goals.
Mr. Arjun Kumar continues to pursue his Ph.D. with the ambition of becoming a professor.
His journey reflects the importance of sustained financial assistance in expanding access to higher education and research, while enabling scholars to contribute to their families and to the country’s academic and intellectual development.
