Posted On: 24 SEP 2026 6:15PM by PIB Delhi Assistance under the Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY) component of the NAMASTE scheme has helped Shri Chevuri Anjaneyulu, a waste picker in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, earn additional income and improve his family’s financial security. He had spent seven years working to support his wife and two children.
A 25-year-old member of the Scheduled Tribe community, Mr. Anjaneyulu began accompanying his parents in waste-picking work at an early age. Financial hardship kept him from attending school. He has also faced social discrimination and lived with limited access to basic amenities and services.
Before the assistance, his income from waste picking made it difficult to meet household expenses and plan for his children’s future. He aspired to improve the family’s living conditions and provide his children with a good education.
On 19 June 2023, Shri Anjaneyulu and three other members received support for a group project under SUY through the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation. The total project cost was Rs 35 lakh, comprising a loan of Rs 17.5 lakh and an upfront capital subsidy of Rs 17.5 lakh.
The assistance enabled him to strengthen his livelihood. He now earns approximately Rs 10,000 more per month through the scheme, helping the family meet its expenses more comfortably.
His two children are studying at an English-medium private school. The additional income has helped him support their education and work towards the better opportunities he had long hoped to provide.For Shri Anjaneyulu, this support has meant greater economic stability and a more secure future for his family. His experience shows how access to livelihood assistance can help waste pickers improve their income and pursue their aspirations.
