Registered No. HSE-49/2016 PART I EXTRAORDINARY No .144 AMARAVATI, TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2026 G.1227 NOTIFICATIONS BY GOVERNMENT --x-- Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department – Elections – Andhra Pradesh Municipalities (Fixation of Strength of Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Councils) Rules, 2004– Amendment - Notification - Orders – Issued. ======================================================== (G.O.Ms.No. 64, MA & UD (G) DEPARTMENT, Date: 24.03.2026) NOTIFICATION In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 326 read with clause (i) of sub-section (2) of Section 5 of the Andhra Pradesh Municipalities Act, 1965, (Andhra Pradesh Act No. 6 of 1965) Government hereby makes the following amendment to the Andhra Pradesh Municipalities (Fixation of strength of Nagarpanchayats and Municipal Councils) Rules, 2004 issued in G.O.Ms.No.468, M.A. & U.D. (Elec.II) Department, dated: 02.11.2004, and as amended from time to time. AMENDMENT In the said Rules: - (i). Rule 3 shall be omitted. (ii). In Rule 4, the following table shall replace the existing Table; No. of Sl. Population as Last Census Elected No. Members 1 Not exceeding 30,000 23 2 Exceeding 30,000 but not exceeding 40,000 28 P.T.O//2// 3 Exceeding 40,000 but not exceeding 50,000 32 4 Exceeding 50,000 but not exceeding 60,000 36 5 Exceeding 60,000 but not exceeding 80,000 40 6 Exceeding 80,000 but not exceeding 1,00,000 44 7 Exceeding 1,00,000 but not exceeding 1,50,000 48 8 Exceeding 1,50,000 52 (iii) The Following Provision shall be inserted after the existing provision: Provided that the number of Ward Members so fixed under this rule shall not be altered until the next succeeding census figures are published by the Central Government, except in case of change of jurisdiction of Nagar Panchayat or Municipality, or in case of constitution of a Nagar Panchayat or Municipality. (iv). Insertion of new Rules: Rule 5: Whenever the Strength of Ward Members of a Nagar Panchayat or Municipality fixed under Rule (4), the same shall take effect from the date of expiry of the term of the existing elected Body. Rule 6: Whenever there is a change in the Strength of Ward Members of a Nagar Panchayat or Municipal Council, re-division of Nagar Panchayat or Municipality into wards as per Andhra Pradesh Municipalities (Division of Nagar Panchayats and Municipalities into wards) Rules, 1995 shall be taken on a compulsory basis before conduct of ordinary elections to such Nagar Panchayat or Municipal Council.
