Registered No. HSE-49/2016 PART I EXTRAORDINARY No .145 AMARAVATI, TUESDAY, MARCH 24, 2026 G.1228 NOTIFICATIONS BY GOVERNMENT --x-- Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department – The Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporations (Fixation of Strength of Elected Members) Rules, 2005 – Amendment – Notification – Orders – Issued. ======================================================== (G.O.Ms.No. 65, MA & UD (G) DEPARTMENT, Date: 24.03.2026) NOTIFICATION In exercise of the powers conferred under section 585 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1955 (formerly known as GHMC Act, 1955), the Government, hereby, makes the following Amendment to the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporations (Fixation of Strength of Elected Members) Rules, 2005 and as amended from time to time:- AMENDMENT In the said Rules: - (i). In Rule 3, the following table shall replace the existing Table: Sl. Population as per the Latest Census No. of Elected No. Members 1 Not exceeding 2,00,000 60 2 Exceeding 2,00,000 but not exceeding 3,00,000 62 3 Exceeding 3,00,000 but not exceeding 4,00,000 66 4 Exceeding 4,00,000 but not exceeding 5,00,000 68 5 Exceeding 5,00,000 but not exceeding 6,00,000 72 6 Exceeding 6,00,000 but not exceeding 10,00,000 76 7 Exceeding 10,00,000 but not exceeding 15,00,000 86 8 Exceeding 15,00,000 120 P.T.O//2// (ii). Following Provision shall be inserted under the table: Provided that the number of Ward Members so fixed under this rule shall not be altered until the next succeeding census figures are published by the Central Government, except in cases of change of jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation or in case of up- gradation/Constitution of a Municipal Corporation. (iii). Insertion of new Rules: Rule 4: Whenever the Strength of Ward Members of a Municipal Corporation fixed under Rule (3), the same shall take effect from the date of expiry of the term of the existing elected Body. Rule 5: Whenever, there is a change in Strength of Ward Members of Municipal Corporation, re- division of Municipal Corporation into wards as per the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporations (Delimitation of Wards) Rules, 1996 shall be taken on compulsory basis before conduct of ordinary elections to such Municipal Corporation.
