The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has launched the “Gems of India” Challenge, a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging content creators, videographers, and storytellers to showcase India’s rich heritage and culture. Specifically, the initiative invites creators from Goa to document the state’s traditions, tourism landmarks, and local stories. The program is part of the MyWAVES citizen creator platform under the WAVES OTT service.
Challenge Specifications
Content Format: Participants must create a 1–3 minute video.
Theme: Highlighting the distinct identity, heritage, tourism destinations, and traditions of their respective districts.
Timeline: The initiative runs from August 1 to August 31, 2026.
Submission Deadline: August 31, 2026.
Application Process
Participation is managed through the WAVES app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users must:
Register or download the WAVES app.
Access the "MyWAVES" section.
Navigate to the program module to submit their video entry.
Incentives and Prize Structure
The challenge offers recognition and cash prizes at three distinct levels:
“Gems of India” Challenge: A nationwide initiative inviting content creators to produce videos highlighting regional heritage, culture, and tourism to win cash prizes at district, state, and national levels.
Ministry of Information & Broadcasting: The primary government ministry overseeing the initiative and its dissemination.
MyWAVES: The specific citizen creator platform and app section where participants register and submit their video entries.
WAVES OTT: The digital platform under which the MyWAVES initiative and the challenge are hosted.
Goa: The primary state of focus for this announcement, targeting local videographers and storytellers to showcase its cultural heritage.

Content creators, videographers and storytellers across Goa have an opportunity to
showcase the State’s rich heritage, culture, traditions and tourism landmarks
through the “Gems of India” Challenge. The nationwide initiative, being held from 1
August to 31 August 2026, builds upon MyWAVES, the citizen creator platform
under WAVES OTT.
The Challenge invites participants to create a 1–3 minute video highlighting the
distinct identity, heritage, tourism destinations, traditions and local stories of their
respective districts. The initiative seeks to encourage digital storytelling by local
creators and provide them an opportunity to bring the unique stories and cultural
heritage of their districts to audiences across the country.
Participation in the “Gems of India” Challenge can be completed through the WAVES
app. Participants can register or download the app from the Google Play Store or
Apple App Store, access the MyWAVES section, navigate to the programme module
and submit their completed video entry. The last date for submission of entries is 31
August 2026.
The Challenge offers recognition and cash prizes at the district, State and national
levels. The prizes include ₹50,000 at the district level, ₹2 lakh at the State level
and ₹ 5 lakh at the national level.
Content creators, videographers and storytellers across Goa are encouraged to
participate and showcase the State’s unique stories, traditions and cultural heritage
through visual storytelling.
