Mah. WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Maharashtra Private

Republic of India as follows :—
1. This Act may be called the Maharashtra Private Universities Short title.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
The Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation)
Act, 2023, (Mah. VIII of 2024), is enacted for establishment, incorporation and
regulation of self-financed private universities in the State of Maharashtra for
development and advancement of higher education in the State and for matters
connected therewith or incidental thereto.
2. Section 6 of the said Act, provides that the Government after considering
the report submitted by the Verification Committee under sub-section (4) of
section 5 of the said Act, is satisfied that the sponsoring body has complied
with the provisions of section 5 of the said Act may permit the establishment
of a private university, by inclusion of the name, location and headquarter of
the private university and their sponsoring body in Part II of the Schedule, by
amending the Schedule by enacting a law by the State Legislature.
3. As provided in the said section 6 of the said Act, the Government
after considering the report submitted by the Verification Committee under
sub-section (4) of section 5 of the said Act, is satisfied that the sponsoring
body, the Reliance Foundation Institution of Education and Research,
Floor 9, Plot 222, East Wing, Maker Chambers IV, J. B. Marg, Nariman Point,
Mumbai-400021, has complied with the provisions of section 5 of the said Act,
establishment of private university by the name of ‘‘ Jio University’’.
4. Therefore, to establish the Jio University a self-financed university, the
Government considers it expedient to amend Part II of the Schedule appended
to the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act,
2023, suitably.
5. The Bill seeks to achieve the above objectives.
