of 1971. WHEREAS it is expedient further to amend the Maharashtra Slum Areas
(Improvement, Clearance and Redevelopment) Act, 1971 for the purposes
hereinafter appearing; it is hereby enacted in the Seventy-sixth Year of the
Republic of India as follows :—
1. This Act may be called the Maharashtra Slum Areas (Improvement, Short title.
Clearance and Redevelopment) (Third Amendment) Act, 2025.

Amendment 2. In section 34A of the Maharashtra Slum Areas (Improvement, Mah.
of section Clearance and Redevelopment) Act, 1971, for sub-section (1), the following XXVIII

sub-section shall be substituted, namely:-

of 1971. ‘‘(1) The State Government shall, by notification in the Official Gazette,
constitute, the Apex Grievance Redressal Committee or Committees,
for such area as may be specified in the notification, consisting of the
Chairperson and such number of members and for the purposes of
exercising such powers and performing such functions as the Government

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS
The Maharashtra Slum Areas (Improvement, Clearance and Redevelopment)
Act, 1971 (Mah. XXVIII of 1971) has been enacted to provide for the improvement
and clearance of slum areas in the State and their redevelopment and for the
protection of occupiers from eviction and distress warrant. The said Act also
provide for implementation of the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme as well as Slum
Redevelopment Projects.
2. Section 34A of the said Act provides for constitution of the Apex
Grievance Redressal Committee having jurisdiction all over the State of
Maharashtra. The Apex Grievance Redressal Committee is constituted for
the purposes of exercising the powers and performing the functions as may be
assigned to it under the said Act. Large number of cases are currently pending
before the Apex Grievance Redressal Committee due to which the Committee is
unable to address the grievances and timely dispose off the appeals filed before
it. Therefore, for smooth functioning of the Committee and for timely addressing
the grievances and also to expedite the disposal of the appeals, it is considered
expedient to provide for constitution of Apex Grievance Redressal Committees by
amending section 34A of the Maharashtra Slum Areas (Improvement, Clearance
and Redevelopment) Act, 1971, suitably.
3. The Bill is intended to achieve the above objectives.
