**Policy Summary: Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG)**
The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) since April 1, 2016, with the goal of providing financial assistance to eligible rural households for the construction of permanent houses equipped with basic amenities, thereby achieving "Housing For All" in rural areas.
The initial phase of PMAYG aimed to support the construction of 2.95 crore houses between FY 2016-17 and FY 2023-24. The program has been extended from FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29 to facilitate the construction of an additional 2 crore houses. Beneficiaries are identified using housing deprivation parameters from the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database and the finalized Awaas 2018 survey list. The continuation of PMAYG has been approved to saturate the updated Awaas 2018 list and include remaining eligible households in the SECC 2011 PWL, within the overall limit of 2 crore houses.
As of August 7, 2025, saturation of eligible households from the SECC 2011 and Awaas 2018 lists has been achieved in all States/UTs except Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka. The Union Territories of Delhi, Chandigarh and Puducherry do not implement PMAYG. Telangana has also not implemented PMAYG since its inception.
As of August 7, 2025, the cumulative targets allocated by the Ministry, houses sanctioned and completed under the PMAYG are as follows: a cumulative target allocation of 4,12,31,890, with 3,84,89,500 houses sanctioned and 2,82,47,038 houses completed.

The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G)
w.e.f. 1st April 2016 to provide assistance to eligible rural households for the construction of Pucca houses
with basic amenities to achieve the objective of "Housing For All" in rural areas. Under the PMAY-G, the
initial target was to provide assistance for the construction of 2.95 crore houses during FY 2016-17 to 2023-
24. The Government of India has approved the implementation of the scheme during FY 2024-25 to 2028-29
to provide assistance for the construction of 2 crore additional houses.
The beneficiaries under PMAY-G are identified based on the housing deprivation parameters under the Socio-
Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 database and the finalized Awaas+ 2018 survey list. The Government
of India has also approved the continuation of the Pradhan MantriAwaasYojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) for
saturating the Awaas + (2018) list (after updation) and balance eligible households in SECC 2011 PWL by
providing assistance within the overall ceiling of 2 crore.
The Ministry has achieved saturation of eligible households identified through the existing SECC-2011 list
and the Awaas+ 2018 list in all the States/UTs except for the States of Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal
& Karnataka. The UTs of Delhi, Chandigarh and Puducherry are not implementing PMAY-G. The State/UT-
wise details of cumulative houses, targets allocated by the Ministry, and houses sanctioned & completed, as of
07.08.2025, are given below:
