There shall be a Strategic Policy Group (SPG), to assist the National Security Council and to undertake among other tasks, a long-term strategic Defence review. It shall be the principal mechanism for inter-ministerial coordination and integration of relevant inputs in the formulation of national security policies. SPG shall be chaired by the National Security Adviser and shall consist of the following: (i) Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog (ii) Cabinet Secretary (iii) Chief of the Army Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff and Chief of the Air Staff (iv) Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (v) Foreign Secretary (vi) Home Secretary (vii) Finance Secretary (viii) Defence Secretary (ix) Secretary, Department of Defence Production and Supplies (x) Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri (xi) Secretary (R), Cabinet Secretariat (xii) Secretary, Department of Revenue (xiii) Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (xiv) Secretary, Department of Space (xv) Director, Intelligence Bureau (xvi) Secretary, National Security Council Secretariat Representatives of other Ministries / Departments may be invited to SPG meetings, as and when necessary.
