ORDINANCE No. 1
Ahmedabad, the 8th March, 2016
No. Senate/26-11-14.—In pursuance to the powers conferred under section 31(1) of the National Institute of
Design Act, 2014 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”), the Senate in its meeting held on November 26, 2014 had
resolved and made Ordinance regarding award of Bachelors of Design (B.Des.) degree, Master of Design (M.Des.)
degree and Diplomas (GDPD and PGDPD) in view of sections 30 (d) and 35 of the Act. The Ordinance was considered
as per section 31(2) of the Act by the Governing Council of the Institute at its meeting held on December 9, 2014.
Thereafter, the Ordinance was amended and again passed by the Senate in its meeting held on January 12, 2016,
and considered by the Governing Council in its meeting held on January 18, 2016.
1. Short Title and Commencement:
a. This Ordinance may be called the National Institute of Design Undergraduate Degree (B.Des.), Postgraduate
Degree (M.Des.) and Diplomas (GDPD and PGDPD) Ordinance, 2014.
b. This Ordinance shall come into force from the date of resolution passed in the Senate meeting held on
November 26, 2014.
2. Definition and Interpretation:
a. “Batch-mates” means students who have joined the courses of studies of the Institute after qualifying the same
entrance test in any particular year.
b. “Successful Completion of Courses” means the passing of required examinations, juries and earning requisite
credits and grades, by the students of the Institute.
3. Award of Bachelor of Design (Under Graduate degree), Master of Design (Post Graduate degree) and award
of Graduate Diploma Programme in Design and Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Design.
The Institute shall confer Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Master of Design (M.Des.) degrees on the
students who have undergone requisite courses of studies and on successful completion of courses at Undergraduate
level and Post Graduate level respectively, and are convocating after enactment of the Act.
provided that all such students, whose batch-mates have been conferred Diplomas in convocations prior to
enactment of the Act, shall be awarded Graduate Diploma Programme in Design or Post Graduate Diploma
Programme in Design at par with their batch-mates, on successful completion of courses.
