Source: NSE, S&P Global, Trading Economics6. Policy Initiatives/Industry Initiatives Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy visited SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant to review key expansion projects, production facilities, infrastructure, sustainability initiatives and employee welfare measures. During the visit, he inaugurated an 84,000 m³ RCC water reservoir, describing it as an important step towards building sustainable industrial infrastructure and reaffirming the Government’s commitment to capacity expansion and modernization of the steel sector.

SAIL announced that Bokaro Steel Plant will receive around 8.3 MT of iron ore annually through India's longest steel-sector slurry pipeline. The 258-km Jamda–Bokaro pipeline will ensure uninterrupted raw material supply, reduce dependence on rail transport, and support the plant's expansion programme.

MECON and RITES signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly pursue consultancy and infrastructure projects in India and overseas. The partnership will leverage their expertise in transport, metals, mining and energy sectors to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions and expand their global footprint.

India's crude steelmaking capacity reached approximately 222 MTPA as of June 2026, progressing towards the National Steel Policy target of 300 MTPA by 2030. Marking a key step in this direction, Bhilai Steel Plant signed an EPCM consultancy agreement with MECON to support the timely execution of its expansion from 7 MTPA to 10.2 MTPA through advanced engineering and construction management practices.

7. International Co-operation SAIL signed an MoU with Indonesia's PT Krakatau Steel to explore a joint venture for manufacturing stainless steel slabs in Indonesia. The proposed collaboration will combine Indonesia's nickel resources with SAIL's steelmaking expertise, strengthening the regional stainless steel value chain and enhancing India–Indonesia industrial cooperation.

8. Green Steel Initiatives SAIL received the Golden Peacock Environment Management Award 2026 from the Institute of Directors

(IOD) in recognition of its excellence in environmental sustainability. The award acknowledges the company's initiatives in decarbonisation, pollution control, waste management, and adoption of sustainable steelmaking practices.

Under the Ministry of Steel's Green Steel Initiative, 97 producers across 15 states had been issued Green Steel Certificates. The certifications cover products such as TMT Bars, HR/CR Coils, Plates, Wire Rods, and Pipes, with a majority receiving the highest 5-star rating, reflecting the growing adoption of greensteel practices across India's secondary and mid-sized steel producers.
